New Patients

At Underwood Chiropractic, we'd like you to feel comfortable coming in for care by giving you clear expectations for your first visit. Before you even arrive at our office, there are some things that you should do. If you have health insurance, call us with your information and we'll check your benefits before you arrive. Still, make sure to bring your insurance card along to your first visit. Also, if you have been in an auto accident or a work injury bring copies of any paperwork you have filled out along with any other information you have in regard to those accidents. If you've had X-rays or other imaging done at another health facility, talk with our office prior to coming to your first visit to find out whether you should obtain those images and bring them in. With respect for your busy schedule, we have provided our new patient paperwork linked above, so that you can get a head start filling that out before you even arrive at our office.

You can expect your first visit to last approximately one hour. Your spouse and children are welcome to accompany you on your first visit if you'd like. When you arrive at Underwood Chiropractic, you will be greeted warmly and guided through any additional paperwork needed.

After completing your paperwork, a thorough history will be obtained by Dr. Underwood and then he will perform an exam including Chiropractic, orthopedic, and neurologic tests. Functional tests including range of motion and muscle testing will also help the doctor better assess your condition. The doctor will then advise you whether your condition can be helped by the therapies available at Underwood Chiropractic, or whether your condition requires attention from a medical doctor. If the doctor feels that Chiropractic and/or ART care will benefit you, he will then recommend taking X-rays of the area to be adjusted in order to determine how posture, degeneration, malformation, or injury is affecting you. Recent X-rays taken by other providers can often be analyzed by Dr. Underwood rather than taking new ones. After X-rays are taken, any home care recommendations will be given and you will be directed to the front desk where you will schedule your report of findings.

Report of Findings
On your second visit, Dr. Underwood will present to you what was found through your history, examination, and X-rays. He will use this report of findings to give detailed answers to the following three questions as well as answer any additional questions you may have.

1. What's wrong?
2. How can we treat it?
3. How long do we expect it to take?

Treatment options will be explained, as well as a recommended course of care. A staff member will take the time to make sure you understand your obligations regarding finances and insurance. Treatment will begin the second day when you choose to start care.
